1997
Founded
Wenzhou Weilan Optical was founded in 1997 by Forrest and King with the establishment of its first factory, Wenzhou Weilan Optical Co., Ltd. In the same year, Wenzhou Sunrise Industrial and Trading Co., Ltd. was also established to expand into international business, starting with a team of six people and focusing on the production of economical injected sunglasses.
2005
Rapid Development
With the rapid growth of Sunrise’s business in 2005, the service team expanded steadily, reaching over 60 employees within seven years. During this period, the factory scale was significantly enlarged, with the total production area expanding to more than 4,000 square meters, laying a solid foundation for future growth.
2009
Acquired Xiamen POS
In 2009, to further enhance injection molding quality and technical capability, the group acquired 90% of Xiamen POS Industrial and Trading Co., Ltd. This strategic acquisition greatly strengthened Weilan’s ability to serve high-end injection sports eyewear brands in the global market.
2011
Set Up an Acetate Production Center
In 2011, Wenzhou Weilan Optical established a dedicated acetate production center with a workforce of approximately 80 people. In the same year, the annual output value of acetate frames reached USD 5 million, marking an important milestone in product diversification and manufacturing capability.
2015
Established Taizhou Shenlan
In 2015, Sunrise further optimized the industrial chain layout by first establishing a high-end metal production center, followed by the opening of a new factory in Taizhou—Taizhou Shenlan Optical Co., Ltd. By the end of the same year, the group operated three factories with over 600 employees and a total production area exceeding 20,000 square meters.
2016
Became a large-scale industrial and trading enterprise
With the establishment of the injection mold center in 2016, Wenzhou Weilan Optical and Sunrise became a large-scale industrial and trading enterprise integrating design, development, production, and sales. Alongside ranking the top three in China in terms of production and sales of sunglasses.
2017
Upgraded Wenzhou Weilan Optical to the headquarters
In 2017, in order to attract customers in the high-end market, the company purchased a new factory of 20,000㎡ (5,000㎡ as QC room and office area, and 15,000㎡ as a high-end production center and upgraded Wenzhou Weilan Optical to the headquarters of Sunrise, focusing on high-end products while Sunrise focused on the manufacture of economical products and became the most cost-effective production center in Wenzhou.
2018
Established Jiangxi Weilan Optical
In 2018, Jiangxi Weilan Optical Co., Ltd. was established as part of the group’s strategic expansion into advanced manufacturing. The facility focused on automation, process optimization, and large-scale production capability, significantly enhancing overall efficiency and quality stability to support global brand requirements.
2020
Established Vietnam Weilan Optical
In 2020, Weilan expanded its manufacturing footprint to Southeast Asia with the establishment of Vietnam Weilan Optical Co., Ltd. This move strengthened regional production flexibility, improved supply chain resilience, and enabled faster response to international customers across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
2021
Achieved twice the growth of the high-end business volume
At the end of 2021, the company had set up a top-grade injection molding production center with a planned monthly production capacity of 100,000 pcs. With the improvement of the high-end manufacturing capacity of Wenzhou Weilan Optical and Vietnam Weilan Optical, the company was able to achieve twice the growth of the high-end business volume.
2023
Established Weilan Optical (Thailand)
In 2023, Weilan Optical (Thailand) was established as a strategic manufacturing base to support global eyewear brands amid evolving supply chain demands. Located in Thailand, the facility provides compliant, scalable, and sustainable production solutions, reinforcing Weilan’s position as a trusted international manufacturing partner.
